Empowering Artisans &
Preserving Heritage

At Sendero Decor, our mission is to celebrate and preserve Guatemala’s rich artisanal heritage. We collaborate directly with skilled artisans to create modern designs that bring their craftsmanship to new markets.  Unfortunately, many traditional techniques are at risk of disappearing due to financial challenges and a lack of support. Through ethical partnerships and fair trade practices, we strive to ensure these traditions not only survive but thrive for future generations.

The Meaning Behind Sendero

The word Sendero means “trail” in Spanish, symbolizing a journey, one that connects Guatemala’s rich cultural heritage with homes around the world. It represents a path of discovery, a bridge between past and present, and a way forward for artisanal traditions to thrive. Through Sendero Decor, customers become part of this journey, helping sustain and celebrate handmade craftsmanship.

The Story Behind
Sendero Decor

Hello, I’m Carol León, founder of Sendero Decor.

This passion project was born from my deep love for handmade pottery, my commitment to preserving artisan traditions, and my profound respect for the artisans who bring these pieces to life.

I was born in Guatemala, a country rich in history, vibrant traditions, and extraordinary craftsmanship. As a child, I loved wandering through bustling markets, drawn to the pottery stalls, especially those filled with miniature pieces, each one so detailed and full of character. Years later, I took up pottery as a hobby, eager to connect with the craft firsthand.

I only wish I had met my great-grandfather, Matias. A gifted potter, he created everything from vases to nativity scenes. But his incredible techniques were never passed down, and with time, they were lost. Now, I see the same fate threatening today’s artisans, many are unable to continue their craft due to financial struggles, while others receive little to no support to carry on their traditions.

I founded Sendero Decor to honour my heritage and help ensure this beautiful art form endures. By collaborating with artisans in Guatemala, I hope to keep these traditions alive while supporting the livelihoods of the talented hands behind each piece.

Now living in Canada, I take pride in sharing a piece of Guatemala with homes around the world. Each piece in our collection tells a story of resilience, artistry, and cultural legacy. I hope it brings not only beauty to your space but also a deeper appreciation for handmade craftsmanship.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
